Complete the implementation of ECP-230134, updating SPS-CBF SPEAD time fields

Details

      • The implementation of the ECP is initiated, keeping pace with the changes on the CBF side. The SPEAD headers should be shown to be using the revised time-stamping format up to the point implemented by the CBF team so that integration tests show that the CBF accepts the data.
      • Any necessary changes should also be made to the DAQ RX stack, so that it can receive the new format.

Implementation has been initiated. Firmware modifications have included a new reference time register and non-zero frame counter restart. This allows a TPM to be resynchronized to a station without resynchronising the entire station of TPMs. The TPM being resynchronized is still required to be re-initialised but future work is planned in PI 22 to remove this limitation and allow resynchronisation by stopping and starting data acquisition. Testing is under way, comparing detailed firmware operation between old and new firmware.

In addition to the above, further work is also needed to modify the SPEAD header contents and propagate these changes to the DAQ library. Therefore this feature has been clone into PI22 as SP-4181.

    Description

      PI22 Description

Work being carried over into PI22:

      • MCCS-1896 frame counter restart (finish and test)
      • MCCS-1898 on SPEAD header changes (in firmware)

Additional work to complete the update needed in PI22:

      • SPEAD header changes in the DAQ RX to match the firmware changes
      • Switch to TAI time
      • Add commands to stop acquisition and resynchronize, so that we may resynchronize an already-initialized TPM without re-initializing from scratch

      PI21 Description

Confluence page ECP-230134 - Update time fields in the LOW CBF - SPS ICD describes changes to be made to time-stamping, relating to ADR-77 and ADR-78.

This will require wide-ranging changes to the hardware / software stack.

As discussed in PI 21 planning, the team should being the implementation in PI21, keeping pace with the changes on the CBF side being done by Perentie so that the SPS-CBF integration uses identical headers on both sides.
