In order to perform a fair and consistent comparison of ART DD imaging and calibration algorithms for generating SKA1 data products (SP-792) it will be important to agree upon, simulate and publish (scripts and/or data) for a small number of well defined input visibility data sets. Where at all possible, this should be built upon existing SKA1 simulations work (see linked features).

    Description

Note: this ticket is intended to capture the follow-up work of SP-796 concerning SKA1-MID.

Step 1: Combine the available simulations of the instrumental response of SKA1-MID with the model of the troposphere developed in -SP-651-.

Step 2: Create and make available a small number of reference visibility data sets for SKA1-MID with varying levels of DD corruptions (beam, troposphere). These simulations should be accompanied by a set of reference beam images/models and/or the scripts for generating them. These should be large enough to cover the first few side lobes of the primary beam and do not need to generated at the full time or frequency resolution of the visibility simulation. Another way to keep the size of the simulated visibility set manageable is to use fewer dishes, for example those identified for AR1 or AR2.
