To bootstrap the development of SKA1 workflows that account for DD effects in calibration and imaging, it would valuable to perform a systematic evaluation of the status of current state-of-the-art tools and algorithms and identify how these might fit into or be adapted to be compatible with the SKA SDP architecture. As part of this review, where possible, identifying the maturity level and distance of each code from the SKA definition of done would also be valuable.

    Description

In SP-674, an inventory was made of SDP relevant state-of-the-art imaging and calibration algorithms and an assessment template was made to allow harmonised assessment of those algorithms. Furthermore, in SP-796 simulations are going to be prepared for visibilities and beam models that allow us to assess how well direction-dependent effects can be corrected for in SKA-like data sets.

This feature covers the next steps: Firstly, we should go through the identified algorithms and assess them based on the template. Furthermore, a small number of good candidates should be selected and used to demonstrate and assess the current capability to correct (and image) the standard simulated data sets identified in SP-796.

The algorithms used and developed by Team YANDA will be assessed by Team YANDA, see SP-930.
