PT and JP have developed an intercontinental OpenStack testbed in PI19. This feature will help us understand whether the intercontinental OpenStack works as expected for container deployment and visualization, as fundamental functionalities of SRC and what are issues there.

What the Olive is facing on the intercontinental cloud testbed is an instability of VM and VPN. We can setup VPNs on the PT compute node and the JP controller node and we can access each other. We can then deploy a VM on the PT compute node from the JP controller node of OpenStack by Kolla Ansible. However, Ubuntu 18.04, 20.04 or 22.04 as the VM operating system fails to boot and shuts down, or responds very slowly. We then observe that the VPN disconnects suddenly and frequently. We tested cirros as a minimum OS for OpenStack. It is better, but cirros’s limited service is inconvenient for us to do our work for the VPN (VPNaaS) deployment on the VM. We deployed an ubuntu 22.04 VM with 2 vCPU, 4 GB MEM, 10 GB disk, the same specification as the PT node, in another JP node. It works without problem.

    Description

The Olive team has tried to deploy a federated OpenStack across JPSRC and PTSRC since PI17 (SP-3105/SP-3317/SP-3318). The team has successfully developed an intercontinental OpenStack testbed consisting of one JP node as a controller node and one PT node as a compute node. However, some issues related to the resource and network remains. This intercontinental testbed can be a unique testbed to see any issues related to a long-haul networking.
