This Feature is to enable the deploying and running of scientific containers next to the data. It is one realization of the architectural goal of moving the code to the data.

This Feature depends on the outcomes of three PI19 Features: Multi-Site Science Data Discovery and Access, CANFAR Science Platform Portability, and User Access Tokens, thus demonstrating service integration across multiple prototype components, and between multiple deployment sites.

This Feature is also important because it will continue to expose institutional considerations for running SRC-like software in national infrastructure deployments.

AC1: For each of the deployment locations, demonstrate that a user with credentials from the prototype IAM can choose to launch one of many science platform session types from a pick list. Within that session a user can use metadata query results to access RACS data. Demonstrate that a user can end the session.

    Description

This Feature is the continuation of the incremental deployments to build up the full functionality of the Mini SRCNet Demonstrator. Now that the services which provide data management and dissemination, metadata management and user data access, and A&A integration with the IAM prototype service are in place, this Feature will begin providing the services that will allow users to interact with prototype data.

This Feature will deploy the CANFAR Science Platform at the following sites:
      Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Japan.

      This Feature requires:

      • a minimal kubernetes installation
      • a POSIX file system that can be attached and accessible to the kubernetes installation with persistent volumes and persistent volume claims
      • Helm

This Feature will provide four CANFAR Science Platform deployments, three of which are located next to data, and one of which is isolated from local data management. It will also provide one Harbor (image registry) deployment.
