Tied-array beam observations form the basis of two key SKA observing modes (PST and PSS), enabling this for AA0.5 allows the commissioning and verification of the telescope (LOW) for this type of observation, derisking the control and monitoring aspects.

      • TMC Low is capable of control and monitoring of any arbitrarily defined tied-array beam form (PST) observation
      • Test set to demonstrate robust behaviour of this.
      • Latest MCCS behaviour/schema is integrated with the TMC
      • TMC is able provides delay tracking for PST beam (as an offset from the regular delay tracking polynomials). Initial version may keep the beam at bore-sight (i.e. provide zeros offsets).

    Description

      What & Why?

Tied-array beam formed observations take the signals from multiple stations from within the LOW array, coherently adding the recovered voltages to provide data in a single 'look direction' (to the data recovered from a classic 'single dish' radio telescope). Such an observing mode, when coupled with an appropriate backend, allows for example Pulsar Timing (PST) observations.
