In order to support the efficient use of AA0.5 ITF Platform Environments, A solution is required for the provision and management of KVM VMs.

This can be achieved using Ansible to orchestrate hardware that has already reached a bootstrapped state.

There are two options for source Ansible roles/playbooks -

      • OpenStack Tenks
      • Ansible community libvirt roles

In addition, source VM images are required to support the primary platform OS - Ubuntu 22.04.  These should be built using a Cloud Image development solution such as Packer.

      • Scripting and documentation resources are assembled to automate the management of KVM hypervisor and VMs.
      • A minimal custom Ubuntu 22.04 image for the SKAO is developed using Disk Image Builder (Packer in future but not this time round) and tested against the Infrastructure test facility, along with documentation. (scenarios: deploy BM nodes, then customise with hypervisor, then deploy VMs on the hypervisors)
