Establishing a minimal baseline for the UX provided to operators and new developers wanting to contribute to the SDP system is needed before doing so gets much more complicated.

Doing this will open up the use of the SDP system to more developers and users who will be able to help us develop it further and improve its resilience, reliability, and usability.

      • Provide a minimal set of instructions that can be easily followed by someone not intimately familiar with the inner workings of the SDP system that describe.
        1. How to obtain and deploy a working system, or if a persistent sandbox system exists how to access it.
        2. How to manually tests the minimal set of functions the SDP provides for PSI use.
      • Consideration should be made to how this can be extended and updated in future by any of the SDP teams or more widely
      • Where possible, engage with OMC teams doing any similar work for SKAMPI but at a minimum describe the basic operation in this context as well as TBD when SDP is operated as a standalone deployment
      • Must be available and discoverable!

We have updated the documentation on running the SDP (in the SDP integration repository):

      https://developer.skao.int/projects/ska-sdp-integration/en/latest/index.html

The page on requirements and running the SDP stand-alone have been reviewed by Sim team members not familiar with the system, and updated based on their feedback.

The page on running SDP in SKAMPI now contains links to the relevant OET documentation. We had very useful feedback from the Buttons team who guided us to the right parts of the documentation. This page is not finished yet because the SKAMPI documentation is still being updated.

We had fortnightly sync meetings with the Atlas team who are working on the SKAMPI documentation. All of the old documentation was removed because it was out of date, and it was started again from scratch. The latest version is here:

      https://developer.skao.int/projects/skampi/en/latest/index.html

We contributed the page on deploying SKAMPI manually on a remote server, based on the experience of doing it on P3, and the page with links to the documentation on SKAMPI subsystems (SDP and OET, so far).

    Description

      • As a PSI operator or developer not intimately familiar with the inner workings of the SDP system, there must be a clear set of instructions for deploying and running it in the various modes it offers (ie standalone and part of SKAMPI)

Improved UX for deploying and test SDP within SKAMPI.

Requires stability improvements and updated/improved documentation. Also, make sure that SKAMPI configuration (e.g. number of sub-arrays) flows down in a consistent manner.
