Description
Map out intra-cabinet and inter-cabinet connections at the CPF
SKA-TEL-INAU-DWG-JJ-0000204[C] shows the 193 cabinets at the CPF and their present allocations. The concept level designs produced for each element by the consortia for their respective element level CDR do not explore deeply the connections, either inside each cabinet or between the cabinets, the CPF.
A integrated view and detailed design needs to be created from the element designs for the inter cabinet connections. This would:
- Establish quantities of cables
- Establish routing of cables along the cable trays
- Confirm likely cable distances between the cabinets
- Highlight the critical routes needed for primary and secondary cable paths between core equipment
- Show cable routes avoiding the congestion of the waveguide/ODF to cabinet connections
- Highlight any assumptions or gaps in the current element designs
- Inform the scope of the required installation work
Map out cable tray assignment from waveguide/ODF to cabinets
Taking the worst case, a SPS cabinet, each cabinet will require 576 cores run from the waveguide/ODF to it. If we make an assumption this will be installed as multiple 12 cores cables this becomes 48 cables per cabinet, or 624 cables for the longest row of 13 cabinets.
At this scale, the volume of cable has the potential for becoming unwieldy very quickly. Two separate things need to be considered, a selection of appropriate cable size from the waveguide/ODF to the cabinet, and the cable tray assignment for each of these cables. A detailed design needs to be created to document this.
The design would:
- Show the overhead cable tray routes (expanding on existing INAU element design)
- Aim to eliminate cable cross overs and minimise cable length and slack
- Verify volume of cables against tray capacity
