Being a Spike, the acceptance criteria will be updated based on progress in the interim review. At the outset of the PI, the outcome of the Spike is expected to be, at the very least, a detailed report outlining the results of the investigation into possible best practices and tools, analysis and recommendations.

Ideally the tools and frameworks should be tried out and those that are recommended as being applicable could be made available with guidelines for use with the help of the System team.

    Description

An emerging need is raising to standardise on some well defined shared procedure to implement TANGO device testing.

See related discussion on https://skasoftware.slack.com/archives/CEMF9HXUZ/p1564731590090700?thread_ts=1562833651.127000&cid=CEMF9HXUZ and the related TANGO forum post at: https://www.tango-controls.org/community/forum/c/development/python/testing-tango-devices-using-pytest/

This is a very interesting topic that represents a clear intersection between the TANGO development, our TESTING practices, the MVP integration and the overall integration and quality practices we adopt.

Implementing this Spike the team will need to involve relevant stakeholders and CoPs so to understand what is the most effective way to implement TANGO device testing. Having a real use case in mind will help to focus on some usable results and this might emerge from the MVP use case.
