As stations are rolled out, it is critical that they can be efficiently verified, before being handed over for incorporation into the array.

The existing SFTs have gaps - they do not verify beamforming, pointing or tracking. If this work is not continued, then stations will end up being handed over to AIV for integration into the array, without this functionality having been checked beforehand.

    Description

During station integration, a suite of short functional tests (SFTs) are required, to allow station integrators to check for correct integration of a station, prior to handing it over to be incorporated into the telescope array. Over the past two PIs, a suite of tests has been developed, targetting AAVS3. However there are major gaps

      • There is no SFT that tests beamforming - the primary observing mode of a station
      • There is no SFT that tests our ability to point and track

We need to implement a pointing and tracking SFT, and this will also implicitly test our ability to beamform. The goal of this SFT is basically the same as the goal of the TC.L.AA.05.1.2.1.4 TMC Interfaces Integration Test Case, so to maximise impact-to-effort, this SFT should take the same approach; that is, point at a cold location in the sky for a short period of time and acquire data. track a bright location e.g. galactice centre for a period of time and acquire data, then perform comparative analysis to check that results are as expected.
