The Global Sky Model (GSM) is an SDP database intended to provide sky model input to SDP pipelines and other telescope sub-systems. We need to define the data models and interfaces and make a start on implementing it in order for the functionality to be in place for early array assemblies.

      1. The minimal initial design of the GSM (and LSM) data models is recorded in Solution Intent.
      2. An initial version has been developed that allows an LSM to be extracted from the GSM and written to storage to be used in processing.
      3. The implementation has been tested by using it in an SDP real-time pipeline.

    Description

The GSM will eventually provide functionality to:

      1. Extract a Local Sky Model (LSM) for a particular observation to be used in processing.
      2. Allow operators to update GSM based on SKA observations. (It will be necessary to do this with other data sets too, initially to bootstrap the service.)

This feature is focussed on the first item. The intention is that the LSM is written to storage and it is retrieved from there during processing. In the initial implementation, the GSM "database" could just be a file that is retrieved from telescope model data.
