SRCs will provide pre-built scripts for standard workflows that users expect to run. We aim to build some of these, and test their effectiveness with regards to hardware limitations and data storage schemes.

This particular workflow mosaics a large image from many smaller ones. It is wavelength agnostic, as long as the input files are FITS format with appropriate WCS (world coordinate system) header information.

There are various mosaicking software tools available in the astronomy community. Here we take SWARP, a C based software package designed for mosaicking optical images, which has been shown to be efficient and flexible.

    Description

      Mosaicking

Input data: a set of images that overlap

      Output data: a single image

      Software involved: Use SWARP

Workflow steps: get data in a single location, run SWARP with input config.

State of existing workflows: Complete and includes data retrieval from archives in the workflow. Needs a recorded demo. Could be extended to include data retrieval from RUCIO in the workflow.

Architecture and hardware: Multithreaded CPU. Flexible on RAM but faster if you have lots. Data in a single location.
