the Intel Tofino P4 future chip technology development is on hold due to Intels budget problems (existing P4 chips are in full production), and as part of PI#18 work a possible alternative solution has been identified
a loaner switch is on offer and the opportuntity presents itslef to do some initial prototyping work to see if the alternative is sufficiently capable
initial prototyping work would explore the switch operating system, k8s integration, switch commands and performance
