There exist solutions for distributed postgres flavoured databases e.g. Citus, YugabyteDB, Greenplum. It would be prudent to understand these better (i.e. what are the benefits and limitations) before deploying any vanilla "production" instance of postgres. This will also enable better comparison with existing software synchronisation implementations.
