User interaction with MCCS deployed at AAVS proceeds as follows:

      • >1 (ideally 16) tiles are initialized and configured as necessary
      • These tiles are used to form a station
      • Meaningful health attributes for all tiles are reported through a UI
      • Meaningful health attributes aggregated as a Station are reported through a UI
      • Station beam-formed data are streamed to a DAQ-to-file receiver
      • Appropriate meta-data are associated with received files

With this feature we concentrated on refining and enhancing our deployments to hardware-facing sites. The Oxford site is generally used for trials and AAVS has been used for demonstrations and to try full-station-scale operation (i.e. 16 tiles).
Top-to-bottom control charting was developed to facilitate deployment and guide documentation produced.
Taranta performance issues were experienced when developing dashboards for the Station with 16 Tile devices, and suitable presentation techniques in view of this developed.
Functional tests covering the "thin slice" functionality were developed.
At this point the new sps Station functionality was not sufficiently mature that the notebooks could drive Station beams, so this will be carried into PI18. This also meant that the demo concentrated on Tiles rather than the Station dashboard.

    Description

The PI16 "thin control slice" establish minimal end-to-end hardware control functionality, causing a single TPM to stream Voltage data to a DAQ-to-file receiver and thence to file.

This feature describes "thickening" this slice by adding greater functionality.

The control script (Jupyter notebook) for the "thin slice" took the place of station-forming operations. In this feature we will implement this in the Station device itself. We will add more capability to the Tile device, implementing fully tile configuration.

Refine this section during planning. Select options from:

      • Station formation in the Station devices, includes:
        • TPM synchronization
        • TPM base configuration (e.g. setting IPs to establish the data daisy chain)
      • Complete the connexions for Configure()
      • Add beam-formed data collection
        • Initially default to zenith drift scan
        • Stretch goal - Implement beam pointing
