      For some time there has been a strong desire to be able to capture any form of data from the MCCS system. This work will take the first step towards allowing simulated data to be captured in an MCCS specific DAQ system. The system created here will lay the foundation for the system aspired to.

      Design work on this feature was completed. It was found that a change in architecture would be preferred, such that DAQ is no longer envisaged as a Tango device. Work on implementation has progressed well, but is not yet ready for demonstration. We have therefore spawned SP-2624 for completion of this work.

    Description

      Implement a basic skeleton DAQ device with stubs. It should have placeholders implementations for receivers, packet filters, ring buffers and consumers.

      The skeleton code should have comprehensive docstrings and/or be commented detailing the intended functionality.

      A test module should be produced with EITHER simple tests for all commands that should raise NotImplementedError OR with a full set of failing tests that test against the intended functionality detailed in the docstrings/comments as per TDD methodology.

      A plan should be produced detailing the next steps and an estimate of the effort required in SP.
