An independent IGO-contracted link will be available to provide the assurance of independent communications links for the IGO HQ once cutover achieved.

Remaining UoM services will be better understood allowing for an easier separation and independent contracting for these services in future months.

Planning will greatly increase the likelihood of a swift cutover with minimal disruption.

    Description

The preparatory work required to be ready to invoke a successful cutover of Internet and other NREN-related services onto the new Jisc resilient fibre connection and away from the University of Manchester (UoM) -supplied service.

As well as preparing for cutover we will need to design and implement a secondary link to allow continued connectivity to the UoM network (estimating needing this for up to a year from commission) to allow the continued operation of UoM-controlled building management elements (such as door access, environmental controls, lighting). This will need to be done in cooperation with UoM IT Services and the outsourced network support company Roc who handle Local Area Network services for UoM.

Proposed cutover steps, firewall changes and IP range migration, establishing replacement IPs for the secondary link, EduROAM design and initial build and failover design for the new service will also be needed and this will have to include UoM, Jisc and Team_IT and possibly some input from members of PLANET.

Due to proposed timescales from Jisc/Openreach the final stages of the resilient link installation are likely to be undertaken in Iterations 1 and 2 but this will be handled in an existing SIT Task with a dependency set for any Stories linked to this Feature as appropriate. Some of this Feature is not dependent so a relates to link has been created for reference here.
