If the SKA will decide to buy such devices:

      • There will be a solid foundation to start working on the INFRA software products
      • Time to complete the INFRA sw will be reduced
      • The devices will be relicensed and opened to the larger TANGO collaboration, allowing for external contributions

The code is assesed and a report is formulated on the confluence page at: https://confluence.skatelescope.org/display/SE/2020-10-12+Evaluation+of+3controls+software+packages

      detailing:

      • a preliminary assessment that the code can be imported, executed, tested, docs compiled
      • a list of any oustanding issue
      • how the code for each project compares to our definition of done (coding standards, test coverage, documentation ... )

It is not strictly necessary but it would be good if the evaluation could test the device against a running third party OPC UA and BACNet server.

    Description

Two TANGO devices have been produced by the 3controls software company that are interesting for the purposes of the SKA project. The code for such devices is being sold as part of the procedure for shutting down the company. The two devices are:

If the SKA is to purchase such software packages an offer is expected to be made by the end of October 2020 as the assets will be sold by way of auction.

The overall objective of this spike is to analyse the software packages, assess their quality against our Definition of Done, log any outstanding issue, and provide a preliminary make VS buy assessment along with a possible price.
