Simple, configurable, responsive signal plots are anticipated to be one of the first functions needed by a PSI/AA operator in order to perform initial debugging of the data stream being received by SDP.

This will allow the operator to have a quick-look functionality to establish if the CBF output and SDP inputs are behaving as expected without having to access and inspect data products.

      • Assessment of the current solution against key NFRs (usability, performance, ...)
      • Produce a strawman design for revising or evolving the current visibility receive signal (QA) display code focusing on the case of a baseline spectrum plot aiming to:
        • Improve the latency between data received and plots being updated (target <= 1s)
        • Be able to extend the code in the future to have the ability to label plots with appropriate metadata (see SP-1360 and MS writer consumer for how metadata is obtained from a mock TM object)
      • Notes, diagrams, and documentation for analysis of current design and new strawman design made available in confluence and attached to this ticket.

    Description

Follows work done in SP-1156 with the aim of reviewing the current solution and addressing issues of:

      1. The latency between data being received and plots being generated which should ideally be a few seconds at most.
      2. Plots being generated with appropriate and sufficient metadata
      3. Integration into the SDP operational system (if not achieved as part of SP-1156)
      4. Stretch: Configurability of outputs. ie being able to select what plots to generate

For the types of plots expected, see 'Signal Displays' section of https://confluence.skatelescope.org/display/SWSI/MeerKAT+Observatory+Support+Tools

For testing, initial data sets (and scripts that produce them) were generated in PI8 by SP-1158. It would likely be a good idea to review these early in the PI or at PI planning to determine if additional data sets are needed and if so if support is needed to generate them.
